Understanding the role of self-compassion in providing culturally responsive and humble clinical services
Clinicians may have a difficult time providing culturally responsive services when they are experiencing compassion fatigue and do not engage in self-compassion practices. Clients from all ethnic/racial backgrounds may be suffering as a result of all forms of trauma, including adverse childhood experiences and racial trauma. When clinicians are not knowledgeable about the impact of compassion fatigue and more generally their exposure to secondary trauma, and do not have practical tools for engaging in self-compassion, they may have a more difficult time in providing culturally responsive clinical services. This workshop will help clinicians to learn more about compassion fatigue, its signs and symptoms, and strategies for treatment. Also, clinicians will learn practical tools for building resilience through practicing self-compassion.
