Strategies for dealing with difficult clients/patients

Providers and supporting staff are sometimes placed in the uncomfortable position of having to deal with difficult patients who make biased comments to providers and their support team and use microaggressions. Also, providers and their team are sometimes lacking in cultural humility and may not fully understand the need for culturally responsive care for diverse populations. Therefore, the purpose of this training is twofold: (1) To help providers and support staff to develop strategies for responding and confronting patients in a positive way when derogatory and inappropriate comments are made; and (2) To help providers and staff to develop cultural humility in order to provide culturally responsive care to diverse patients/clients.
