SAFE: The role of spirituality in recovery

It is well documented that spirituality is a cultural fact that must be considered when providing mental health services to diverse communities. For example, many BIPOC families rely heavily on their faith to help them through difficult times, as well as mental health challenges. Mental health providers are sometimes ill prepared to incorporate spirituality into their treatment of these unique community. Further, faith leaders are not always comfortable with validating and encouraging their congregations to seek help from professional mental health professionals outside the church. The educational goal of this training is to help to close the gap between mental health providers and faith leaders, in order to build a bridge that will empower diverse families to become mentally, physical, and spirituality whole.
