Letters of recommendation for gender affirming care

Informed by the recommendations of the WPATH SOC, Version 8, this session will equip attendees with the knowledge needed to write letters of recommendation for gender-affirming medical care for minors and adults using an anti-oppressive, depathologizing, gender-affirming approach. Using a mock interview, the required content of letters will be explicitly discussed, and examples of successful letters will be shown to help attendees with the application.

Learning objective:

  • Compose letters of recommendation for gender-affirming surgical interventions meeting the Standards of Care Version 8 (SOC8) criteria
  • Name 3 required components for letters of recommendation for gender-affirming surgical interventions as outlined in the SOC8
  • Describe 2 ways to implement an anti-oppressive, depathologizing, and gender-affirming approach to assessments related to gender- affirming letters of recommendation
