Implementing trans-affirming guidelines and standards of care

This training explores the role of cultural humility in therapy with transgender and gender diverse (TGD) clients. Therapists will learn about using APA guidelines and WPATH standards of care while cultivating cultural humility. This training offers a blend of theoretical frameworks, practical strategies, and interactive exercises to enhance therapists' competence and confidence in working with TGD clients. Using a combination of didactic presentations, case studies, and group discussions we will navigate potential missteps and opportunities to repair ruptures. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with colleagues, share insights and experiences, and explore ways to enact TGD-affirming cultural humility.

Learning objectives:

Identify two aspects of cultural humility that can be implemented in their work with transgender clients.
Identify one cis-normative "trap" that therapists must balance when working with transgender clients.
Identify two professional organizations that provide guidelines or standards of care that can help guide our work with transgender and gender diverse clients.
