Culturally responsive mental/behavioral health treatment for clients from the African diaspora

When providing treatment to Black people, providers are not always aware of the differences that exist among people from the African Diaspora. In the United States, the focus has been on the African American community. However, this training will help providers to better understand the great diversity that exists within the Black community, especially those in the African American African, and Afro-Caribbean communities. This training will provide providers with some of the vital tools they will need to engage in exploration, introspection, and reflection when working with these communities. Culturally responsive practices that come from the multicultural and social justice counseling competencies and cultural humility will be presented with a focus on the treatment of children, adolescents, and adults in these rich communities. The implications for clinical practice will be explored to advance health equity, improve quality and to reduce health care disparities. This training meets CLAS Standard Principal Standard: 1. Provide effective, equitable, understandable, and respectful quality care and services that are responsive to diverse cultural health beliefs and practices, preferred languages, health literacy, and other communication needs.
