Clinical supervision: 6-Hour refresher training

This training addresses essential components of multicultural clinical supervision as defined by the American Psychological Association Guidelines for Clinical Supervision in Health Service Psychology, the Association of Social Work Boards, and the subsequent research on clinical supervision and their application to practice. Participants will learn the complexity of the multiple components of supervisor cultural humility and intellectual humility considering health equity. There will be an emphasis on multicultural identities and worldviews of all participants in the context of establishing the supervisory relationship, translation to the supervision contract, goal setting and anchored feedback, how that all fits in ongoing evaluation, trauma-informed supervision, and critical incidents in supervision. Identification and prevention of frequent supervisor errors and inadequate or even harmful supervision will be outlined. Discussion will focus on enhancing supervisor competence and managing countertransference and emotional reactivity. Focus will be on enhancing supervisor competence in self-awareness, self-care, and support at the individual, group, and setting levels. Lecture, discussion, and attention to complex issues in supervision will be included.
