Centered responses: The path to de-escalation and crisis support
Community support professionals often have their first encounter with individuals in the community when the person is experiencing heightened physical, mental, emotional and even spiritual states as a result of internal or external conflicts – or both. These heightened states may be experienced as a crisis or opportunity for transformational change. During these encounters it requires skills by the support person to be a source of wellness, often described as a sense of “being centered”, to de-escalate and create a safe space to navigate choices and options in re-establishing wellness.
We will discuss and explore the resources, indicators and action plans that will guide and provide skilled, culturally responsive and centered support to individuals that may be in a crisis. In this workshop we ask that participants who attend have their cameras on and be ready to share with others both in large groups and small groups. What supports this course to be effective is that we all share and learn from others.
