Affirmative clinical practices with LGBTQ+ populations

This training will focus on providing foundational knowledge to conduct culturally competent behavioral health practice with LGBTQ+ populations. The training covers foundational knowledge, clinical approaches, relevant theory and research about LGBTQ+ populations and sub-populations, and identity development pathways over the lifespan. The information in this training builds on participants’ prerequisite familiarity with basic terminology and concepts to prepare them to work effectively with the clinical issues presented by LGBTQ+ people.

Learning objectives:

Identify 2 behavioral health disparities between LGBTQ+ populations and heterosexual and cisgender populations
Identify 1 specific role that a behavioral health clinician has in supporting access to gender affirming interventions
List 3 components of the minority stress model
Identify at least 2 unique stressors facing specific populations within LGBTQ+ communities
Identify 3 examples of presenting problems that LGBTQ+ clients may bring to clinical work
